discovering hands is a non-profit organization that educates and trains women with blindness to become "medical tactile examiners". When a person becomes blind, other senses are enhanced. Especially the sense of touch is trained on a much higher level than in sighted people. So the disability becomes a valuable ability in the detection of breast cancer as these medical tactile examiners are able to discover much smaller growths in the breast than other people could.
To use this talent to improve medical diagnostics primarily for breast cancer early detection was the central idea of gynecologist Dr. Frank Hoffmann, based in Duisburg, Germany.
