Breast Cancer Facts
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. There are some interesting facts about breast cancer.
These facts and figures highlight how important it is to spread awareness for early detection and possible treatment options:
In over 107 countries around the world, the incidence rate for breast cancer in 2020 was the highest for all sexes. If we look only at females, there are even 158 countries worldwide where breast cancer is the most common cancer.1
Malignant forms are responsible for 13 % of all female cancer deaths.2 This is 6.9% of the total number of cancer deaths worldwide of all sexes in 2020.3
Though the incidence rate of breast cancer is lowest among women in less developed regions, the mortality rate in these areas is comparable to most more developed regions. This is, among other things, due to lack of access to early detection and treatment.4
Whereas breast cancer mortality is declining in many high-income countries with historically high rates, it continues to rise in countries with lower rates. This is mainly due to the lack of access to early detection and treatment compared to the more developed regions.5
